Stacking coupons

Happy Sunday everyone, and sorry for delaying this post. I was feeling like I was run over by a Mack truck yesterday, but we're all good to go today.

Let's talk Coupon stacking! Actually let's rewind a second, and let me explain exactly what coupon stacking is. "Stacking" is when you use more than 1 coupon, at the same time, for one product. Here in Edmonton/Area, there are only 2 stores that I am aware of that allow coupon stacking, London Drugs, and Save on Foods (please note though that SOF just started to allow stacking, so please be patient with your cashiers).

What is the benefit to stacking coupons? you ask...
Well, for starters, you will end up saving much more than just a 1 coupon transaction, and in many cases, your item(s) will be free. FREE!! How do you feel about free shampoo, laundry detergent, diapers (a huge deal for parents), formula, etc etc...

Now I promised you when I started this blog that couponing wasn't hard, and this, while it requires a smidge more understanding of the fine print, is relatively simple to master. So here we go....

Ok, let's say that product 'X' is on sale for $15.00. You have several coupons for this product so you want to stack them to get 'X" for free (or very very little). What you need to be aware of is the fine print on the bottom or back of the coupon. Key phrases that tell you you CANNOT stack them are: "CANNOT BE COMBINED WITH ANY OTHER COUPON OFFER", and you obviously cannot use expired coupons. Now, the other main thing to remember is that you cannot use a duplicate coupon (such as 2 from the same insert, or website, etc).

Here's a step by step of our example, Product X:
- "Product X" sale price = $15.00
- 1 coupon you found in a magazine for $5.00 off
- 1 coupon ordered from one of the websites for $5.00 off
- 1 coupon found in a newspaper insert (Smart Source etc) for $3.00 off
- 1 coupon from a tearpad found in stores for $2.00 off
Total paid for 'Product X' = FREE

I *believe* London Drugs will cap you at 4 coupons per item, but they will also not allow you to exceed the value of the product either so in some cases you may end up paying a small amount.

Stacking, I have found works SO well when buying certain items. Diapers, wipes, laundry soap, toothpaste, feminine products, Asvil/Tylenol (both for adults and kids) and household cleaners. Makeup can become dirt cheap too!

I am hoping I explained this clearly for everyone, but if you have ANY questions, please dont hesitate to ask in the comments below! This is one of the best ways to save big $$ and get freebies.

How to MAKE money and get free stuff using coupons

Sometimes a coupon deal comes along that is just so fabulous that an avid couponer gets positively giddy! For me personally, this happens when stores pay me to take the product home!

Walmart's coupon policy, in part, states that "When coupon value exceeds the price of the item: the excess amount can be given as cash or can be applied toward the basket purchase , at the customer's choice". WOW! Now as an example, say Ziplock bags are on sale for $1.48 per box, and I have a coupon that says 'Save $4.00 WUB 2', that means that for every 2 boxes of Ziplock bags I buy, Walmart will PAY ME $1.04.

With the overage produced, You can purchase your items that are not as "coupon friendly" such a meat and produce. Pretty exciting stuff when you realize how this can work for you!

Now, before you get too excited, please realize that not all stores will do this! Wal-Mart and Giant Tiger will allow you to have/use the overage, Shoppers Drug Mart will occasionally, and some others will mark the coupon down to match the actual price, but you would still get the product free.

This weekend there are some freebies available. Canadian Tire is doing their annual scratch ticket, and you can save $5.00 (or win a BBQ, or save $5.00 at M&M Meats). With that $5.00 you could get free Tide (at $4.47 + something to take you over the $5.00), Bounty Basics 6 pk papertowel (at $4.97 with something small to take you over $5.00).

The biggest bonus is that a lot of the coupons that you can print yourself, (and I'm working on that list for you), can be printed multiple times, thus allowing you to stock up and maximize your savings. Always remember to check your store's clearance sections, you can often times get better-than-best-sale prices, and still use a coupon for extra value.

Today is new flyer day, so as I go through I will post any hot deals I find!

Tomorrow, we cover COUPON STACKING!! That is using multiple coupons for 1 product resulting in near and free items (hello Diapers!)

Where do you get your coupons from Mrs G?

I have been asked this question a _LOT_. The answer is from a few different sources. No, I'm not dumpster diving, but I am not above asking family for any extras they might have!

Here are my main sources of coupons:

Online.
There are several websites that mail you coupons. These are free sites, and with a total of 3 email addresses in this house, that gives us 3 copies of each coupon. Easy peasy! The sites in particular are as follows:

BRANDSAVER
SAVE.CA
WEBSAVER
GO COUPONS

There are also several "hidden" links within both Websaver and Save.ca. I'll explain more about those later.

Newspaper Inserts
These are sent every once and awhile. Popular names are such as "Red Plum", "Smart Source" and "Val-Pak". These are a wonderful source as many of these can be stacked (use more than one coupon) at sifferent stores, many times resulting in free (or almost) products. To get additional copies of these, I hit up friends and family. These are found in your daily newspapers (Edmonton Journal/Sun) on specified weekends.

Store Tear Pads
These are the coupons you randomly find while walking through stores. They are always with the products (exception is Superstore, they can also be found up front).

Manufacture Coupons
Did you know that only 3% of manufacture's coupons are ever reedemed? For that reason, calling up/emailing your favorite companies and requesting coupons can result in some great deals! What's the worst they can say? No.

Online Printable coupons
Many times these are GOLDEN! Quite often, you can print more than one, making them perfect to stack, or for a great sale, allow you to stock up!

Assorted coupons
Magazines, newspapers, and stick on coupons are a great savings. As are mail in rebates!

Keeping your eyes open for any and all cooupons is the way to start your pile, sometimes a product makes you money, and that is alwys a great thing. We;ll talk about "making money" off coupons tomorrow!

Welcome Friends!!

Welcome friends both new and old to Mrs G's Coupon adventures!

I recently learned how to coupon (and extreme coupon) in Canada, and want to share the ins and outs with you all! This site will take you to coupon links, freebies and printable at home coupons. I will also show you how to stack coupons and promotions to help make the _MOST_ out of every dollar you spend at the store.

Please feel free to contact me with questions or even to point me in the direction of coupons/freebies I may have missed!

Grab those coupons, and your grocery bags, let's head out on this aventure!
